Basic Poker Rules

- A new deck of 52 standard playing cards must be introduced for every new game of poker that is started.
- Players must wait to be seated in a public card room, then add their name to the list and wait in hearing distance for their name to be called.
- Seat Fees are paid before the commencement of the poker game. Some games need you to buy-in into the game. For Limit Poker a Full buy-in is ten times the maximum bet for game being played.
- The dealer does the collections and it is necessary that all money must be changed into chips.
- Game play moves in a clockwise direction.
- The immediate two poker players to the left of the dealer are called the small blind and the big blind. They have to place the first two initial bets before the cards are distributed.
- Cards are shuffled and cut and every player gets two open cards also called hole cards.
- Three rounds of betting follow using common cards to improve your hand till everyone has five cards in hand.
- Looking at another’s hand is not allowed.
- Betting for another player is not allowed.
- Playing out of turn or with someone else’s chips is not allowed.
- Only one player at a time has to play a hand.
- Betting out of turn is not allowed
- Displaying a live hand before the show down is not allowed
- A vulgar display of chip stacks is frowned upon
- Any manipulative deed is forbidden.
- Players must keep cards and chips in full view and look after them.
- Deck irregularities should be dealt with immediately by the dealer.
- Misdeals need attention before two players take action.
- After a deal ends, dealers may not show what card would have been dealt.
- Four or Six cards mean that the player has a dead hand.
- If you are absent at showdown your hand is declared dead.
- Players have to hold on to their cards till the dealer decides the winner
- At the showdown the remaining players show their hands in a bid to win the pot.
- Hands are ranked accordingly: Five of a Kind, Straight Flush, Four of a Kind, Full House, Flush, Straight, Three of a Kind, Two Pair, Pair, and High Card
- Players should pay attention to the game and not engage in loud conversation, use obscenities, vandalize cards, cheat, use drugs or create a disturbance.
- Standard etiquette, behavior, courtesy, conduct and house rules need to be followed whether you are playing poker in a card-room, casino, online or in tournaments.
