WSOP 2010
The 41st World Series of Poker starts later today in Las Vegas and apparently the prize pool tops $100 million and it has set a record for attendance of Poker players.
There are 63706 entrants and there are still two events to go including the $10 No Limit Texas Hold Em Championship. It is the seventh year in a row that participation has increased since Harrahs took the event over.
Total prize money for the WSOP event has increased from $107.3 million a year ago to $113.9 million this year. The prestigious $10k No Limit Texas Hold Em event begins at the Rio Hotel later today and is the fore runner to 13 days of intense poker activity in Vegas.
This will determine the final table and it will all culminate in November with the November Nine tournament of all the finalists. It will be interesting to see who will win this tournament. In recent years there have been a number of young guns coming through to win the main event.
Last year 21 year old Joseph Cada became the youngest winner of the main event and took a healthy $8.5 million home. This is Xmas and New Year all rolled into one for a lot of poker players. Spare a thought for those of us who did not make it via qualifying and are stuck outside of Vegas.
