World Cup of Golf Starts
Tthe 56th World Cup of golf has started and hosting the event for the second time is the world’s largest golf course, namely the Mission Hills Golf Club located in Shenzhen, China. Designed by some of the greatest players and golf legends with the likes of Ernie Els, Vijay Singh and Jack Nicklaus, the Mission Hills Golf Club has been home to more than 100 major international tournaments as well as the 41st World Cup of golf held in 1995.
This year’s event has 28 countries represented with the cream of the cream in terms of golf such as UK’s most promising talent, Rory McIlroy who teamed up with Graeme McDowell for the Irish team and Ian Poulter and Justin Rose representing the British team.
The Irish pair is currently given favourites to win the world title with a 13/8 odds followed by the US pair Matt Kuchar and Gary Woodland at 6/1. The brits for their part are fourth on the outright winner list with odds at 10/1 and the Scottish pair comprising of Stephen Gallacher and Martin Laird are fifth at 14/1.
The 1st day saw the Australian duo Richard Green and Brendon Jones, third favourites at 13/2, clinch the first place going 11 under par followed Irish & Scottish Teams both with 9 under par sheet. This year’s world cup sounds to be one of the most exciting of all which could also see the crowning the game’s most exciting young player, Rory McIlroy.
Talking about talents, how can we not mention a few words of The Tiger. Even though Tiger Woods absence from the golf world cup is a big enough information to mention, those who watched last week’s President Cup must have felt reassured with Woods performance, who played his best golf since the past two years.
