Online Poker Processor Fined
It seems that there is a bit of a late bid by the DOJ in the USA to fine as many Poker processors as possible. The latest casualty as reported by Gambling 911 is Allied Wallet Inc and Allied systems Inc who process payments for online poker rooms. They have apparently entered into an agreement with the US attorneys office in New York that will see them forfeit a sum of $13,335,248.91.
There is currently a lot of activity occuring in the US poker market. We have reported in recent times re the attempt by California to regulate online poker and Harrahs new Free Poker client that makes use of the WPT brand. Combine that with the legislation that Barney Frank is introducing and it seems that the fining and going after of these payment processors is simply a way to generate cash.
The Internet Poker Team is looking forward to the day when we do have some regulation in what has to be regarded as the biggest poker market in the world. What will be quite interesting is to see if the current operators in that market will be barred from aquiring licences to market the products in the USA when regulation comes in.
