Casino giants merge for French Poker market
888Holdings plc, owner of popular online casino, 888Casino has announced a tie-up with software giant, Microgaming which will, subject to license approvals, launch a French poker network. This is the first time internet poker networks will be collaborating taking advantage of the shared pool of player liquidity on a single platform.
The venture will see the combination of 888’s excellent technological and marketing capabilities with Microgaming’s first class software. Gigi Levy, CEO, 888 Holdings plc, said: “This deal marks a turning point in the industry with big networks collaborating in newly regulated markets to create a shared pool of liquidity, benefiting customers and assisting in rapidly generating large poker networks in each market.”
According to Mr. Levy, once 888 obtains the required licenses and the French market is operation, it will be a huge strategic opportunity for the company, providing them with the perfect platform to grab a huge chunk of the market share in France, now that the country is all set to taking on the avatar of a major poker market in Europe.
He said, “This is an important step in the development of the industry, and marks the start of European regulated companies collaborating in the poker field to increase their competitiveness.”
The venture is a sign of the growing number of collaborative efforts in the French market with PartyGaming among those who have signed online poker deals in recent months.
