Poker Book Review – Every Hand Revealed, by Gus Hansen
The average poker player would like to read a book on poker that is not simply filled with boring and hard to follow facts, but one that is interesting and holds their attention, and most importantly, teaches them to improve their poker game! Every Hand Revealed is certainly one of the interesting works on the subject of poker and can easily be applied to online poker games and regular poker games too.
Gus Hansen has written a book which is filled with interesting real-life examples. When writing Every Hand Revealed, it is obvious that he intended to write the book in such a way that it would be interesting and hold the readers’ attention. In fact, in the introduction to the book, Hansen notes that he finds most poker strategy books too theoretical and conservative.
Hansen does not remember every hand he has ever played, but he does take notes during live poker tournaments. He took notes throughout the Aussie Millions in 2007. He won the poker tournament, beating the other 746 players who played in the tournament, and took home $1.5 million from his tournament poker games.
Hansen’s notes from the Aussie Millions were used extensively to write Every Hand Revealed. He played 329 hands, and mentions all of them with relevant information and comments added in.
Hansen explains that he feels that the only way to play a good poker game, and to win at poker, is to be both mathematical and analytical. He explains to readers how he makes choices between calling, raising or folding.
The Structure of the Book
The book begins with an introduction, and is followed by Day 1 to Day 4 of the poker tournament, which takes up the first four chapters. The final table follows, and is spread over three chapters. The book ends with a separate chapter in which statistics are shown, and poker tips are shared.
For each day of the poker tournament, Hansen begins by sharing advice he gave himself, and a forecast for the day ahead. At the end of each day, he briefly reviews the day, his poker hands and the poker strategy used.
Why to Buy Every Hand Revealed
Reading this book gives players a close look at the thought processes of one of the best poker tournament players in the world. Players can learn the importance of aggression in poker playing, and how and when to use it to advantage. Poker players also learn the difference between playing a full table, and playing short handed.
While much of what is revealed is not new to good poker players, Gus Hansen has produced a well-written and interesting book, that is bound to be a good investment for both online poker fans and regular poker game players who enjoy poker and want to improve their poker strategy.
Not only are the readers of Every Hand Revealed learning to improve their poker games, they are also following an exciting poker tournament seen though the eyes (and hands) of a winner!
